He leaned into her ear, his voice a whisper only she could hear. "you're my wife, Aarohi. Remember that?" She tried to free herself again, but this time he interwined his fingers with hers over her stomac, keeping her in place. "You struggle too much," he chuckled softly against her ear. Aarohi's breath quickened. her heart war thudding. And then, without warning, he placed a soft kiss on the back of her head, where her maroon chunri rested. His oice was steady, certain. "I'm coming tomorrrow to take you with me." Aarohi froze, then replied, voice trembling with fury. "You won't." He smiled against her head, kissed the same spot again, ad wishpered: "Try me, baby."



With trembling legs, Atharv climbed into the ambulance. The air inside was colder, suffocating. His whole body shook with anxiety. His breath came uneven, his vision blurred with tears, but still he forced himself to blink' to clear it. The white sheet lay still, cruelly silent. His fingers shook violently as he reached fot it. the world slowed. With a desperate breath, he pulled the sheet back. and then...silence. Atharv's body locked in place. His slin turned pale, his lips trembled uncontrollablu. The ground beneath him slipped, his mind went numb, his heart stopped. A whisper escaped him, raw and lifeless: "....Mahi." There she was.
